On the design of these tools

A note on each tool in the collection — what traditional teaching method it replaces or improves on, and the cognitive mechanism behind why it works. Each design is intended to minimize cognitive load to allow students to focus on the task at hand. In all cases I have strived for iPad compatibility first, as my students work on these devices, most especially pushing for handwriting compatibility as research has shown this to be more effective for learning than typing.
